BIPOC Queer, Nonbinary, & Trans Adults

Therapy with Queer Affirming & Inclusive Therapist

There aren’t many spaces where you can be your full self.

You can’t take much more of your job - you’re sick of coworkers taking advantage of your quiet nature, and you’re constantly reeling from the sting of racial microaggressions and misgendering. When you get frustrated, you’re reminded that they have good intentions and

told you’re being ‘too sensitive.’

You’re actually quite skilled at code-switching and ‘faking happy,’ because you’ve been taking care of others’ emotional needs for a long time. Paying attention to yourself feels selfish. But on the days when your body is breaking down and sending clear messages that you need a break, you wonder,

“When it will be my turn to focus on my needs and desires?”

Your friends have noticed that you’ve seemed more disconnected and canceling plans frequently. It’s been hard to talk about what’s going on, because you know that everyone is under a lot of pressure right now.

You don’t want to burden anyone.

And besides, you’re not even sure what would be helpful or if they’ll ‘get it.’ You can't deal with another person telling you to just be ‘out and proud’ without considering the impact of these potential changes on your family and relationships.

It keeps bringing up these feelings of ‘too much’ and ‘not good enough,’ on top of already feeling tokenized and reduced to one aspect of your identity and values.

One friend recently mentioned how helpful therapy has been for them. You haven’t found therapy super helpful in the past, because the last provider you saw had less experience with gender, and the one before that was gender-affirming but not racially competent.

You’re not even 100% sure what you want.

But you do wonder if it could be helpful to have an LGBTQ-affirming AND racially aware therapist who will support you in balancing multiple identities, values, and lived experience.

I’m addyson, a white, queer, and nonbinary clinician who values providing inclusive therapy through lenses of antiracism and racial, body, & gender liberation.

For LGBTQ+ BIPOC people who are seeking an antiracist, racially aware, and queer-affirming therapist in Massachusetts or therapist in Rhode Island, I offer individual therapy in addition to gender-affirming surgery referral.

I specialize in helping those in marginalized bodies (e.g., trans and nonbinary, QTPOC, and fat people) to build self-compassion and shame resilience to “hold the hard.”

I work at the intersections of race, body, and gender, especially thriving when supporting queer, trans, and nonbinary BIPOC adults. Those with marginalized identities often navigate repeated microaggressions in addition to 'everyday' stressors.

I’m aware of the historical impact of settler colonization from my ancestors, as well as the ongoing harm perpetuated by White Supremacy. I value being able to collaborate through our treatment with integrity and humility. I can acknowledge & hold space for potential hurts, while continuing to learn and grow outside of our work together.

My hope is to create a space where you feel heard and seen without needing to over-explain or justify your experiences.

This can include exploring the intergenerational passing down of both joy and trauma; balancing cultural values that are consistent with your needs versus those that feel more complicated; and healing while moving toward race, gender, and body liberation.

You’re searching for affirming therapy as a Queer, Trans, and BIPOC person. Let’s help you move toward healing while making space for all parts of you.

Your experience & feelings matter.
